K911

Our Story.

Who We Are and What We Do

K-911 Animal Rescue exists to give hope, healing, and second chances to dogs most often left behind. For more than four decades, our work has been guided by deep expertise, profound compassion, and an unwavering commitment to animal welfare. What began as a response to the dogs with the most complex behavioral needs has grown into a mission-driven nonprofit that supports animals, families, shelters, and communities.

At K-911, we specialize in rehabilitating animals with significant behavioral challenges – the dogs that many other programs turn away. Our approach combines humane handling, structured behavior support, and long-term rehabilitation so that every dog has the opportunity to thrive. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are rooted in accountability and care, and we believe in creating solutions that are effective, ethical, and grounded in science.

Meet John Sorosky - The Heart of Our Mission

John Sorosky brings more than 40 years of award-winning dog training experience to K-911. He is a co-founder of Camp Canine in Santa Barbara and has spent his career transforming how people understand and work with dogs. Over decades of hands-on work, John has helped thousands of dogs and their families navigate complex behavioral challenges with respect, structure, and compassion.

John’s philosophy is built around calm, confident leadership and humane, science-based principles of behavior. He believes that every dog — no matter their history or challenges — has potential. His methods focus on emotional stability, predictable patterns, and respectful communication rather than dominance or punishment. This balanced, leadership-based approach has made him a trusted mentor to families, rescues, and professionals alike.

Under John’s guidance, K-911 doesn’t just change dog behavior — it changes lives. The work we do reflects his deep understanding that rehabilitation is not about quick fixes, but about helping dogs feel safe, valued, and understood.

Our Mission and Impact

As a nonprofit, K-911’s mission extends beyond individual dog training. We are committed to education, community outreach, and partnership with shelters and rescues to create healthier environments for dogs everywhere. We know that knowledge empowers people, and when staff, volunteers, and families understand canine behavior, more dogs find lasting, loving homes.

We support shelters by offering training programs, staff and volunteer instruction, and behavior assessments designed to improve outcomes for dogs in their care. Our work with shelters reduces stress for animals, increases adoptability, and strengthens the bond between humans and dogs.
